A message from our Executive Director and Founder

Neuro Neighborhood has arisen from a group of people seeing first hand the needs and lack of support for adults with neurological conditions in the Lancaster area. Most of us know someone who has had a stroke, or been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease or another neurological condition. However, for the person receiving that diagnosis, the path ahead is unclear and scary. As a neurological physical therapist, I saw this uncertainty in patients and family members turn into isolation and depression too many times. Whether it was worsening mobility, limited accessibility in the community, or simply embarrassment, it drew people away from the activities and people that they loved.

Our message is that those fears, uncertainties, and barriers do not have to stop you from living well, thriving, and engaging in your community. We believe that with the right support, anything is possible. If you want to be able to walk across the grass to get to your grandson’s baseball game, come hang out with our physical therapists and they will help improve your dynamic balance and confidence to make it across the uneven grass. If you want to get back to bike riding with your spouse, visit our adaptive biking day to see how bikes can be improved to compensate for physical impairments. If you are recently diagnosed and want to learn what resources are available, join one of our support groups to learn from experts and your peers.

The fact of the matter is, no one tried to get Multiple Sclerosis or have a Brain Injury, but life is a lot better knowing that if you or a loved one does get this news, there are people out there that want to help support you. No one should be going through one of the most challenging parts of their life without a community, or should I say - a neighborhood.
